Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Failed Smog - Fuel Evaporative Controls Functional

I just bought my self a Ranger over the weekend. Its a 1995 ranger, manual, 6 cylinder 4.0 liters. 118k miles.

Took it to get it smogged this morning, and it failed. Everything passed really good besides the Fuel Evaporative Controls Functional. and just wondering what to do....

I've been reading a couple of other posts here, and couple of people seemed to have problems with the fuel filler hose and just wondering could that be it? or could it be something way more serious?

The truck itself runs good no problems at all, i've probably put a little more then a hundred miles on it this weekend, and didn't notice anything. I put a full tank of gas in and I didn't notice any leaks in the tank visually.

Sorry if my post seems dumb, i'm just looking for some guidance. on what to do next......

thanks in advance

Wild guesses (but simpler than messing with the fuel tank)
  • Broken carbon canister
  • Bad canister purge solenoid
  • Cracked hose leading to/from carbon canister and solenoid
