Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Question Ranger ABS Light ,Check Engine Light

I have a 1999 Ranger 4cyl 5spd standard Two weeks ago my ABS light came on & my speedometer started acting up. Three days later as my odometer swithched from 94,500 to 94,501 my check Engine Light came on & my spedometer & odometer quit working. What's up with all this? Is the ABS light relevant to the Check Engine Light & or the speedometer/odometer? Where should I start? I've already checked all my fuses that I know of ,checked the wires under the dash & hood. They all look ok. Is it ok to drive? Help!!

Default ABS sensor

The best fix for it is replacing the sinser. I had mine go out at around 89,575. it is only 15.00 - 25.00 dollers depending what state and take 5-20 min depending on skill level. one bolt torqued to 20-25 Ft Lbs. It is located on top of the rear end cernered in the bell housing.

Default Ranger ABS Light ,Check Engine Light, Speedo and Odo Problem

I have the ABS light lit, Check Engine light lit and the speedometer is swinging back and forth and at time does not work at all (odometer also affected). I have replaced the speed sensor on the rear end to no avail. Plugging in a code reader indicates a bad speed sensor. However, I just replaced it with a new one purchased form a Ford dealer. Any other ideas?

It is a 99 4cyl, 5spd, 2wd, XL, regular cab with 84,000miles.

Problem was a worn wiring harness near the speed sensor. Wore through to the copper wire. Harness seemed very tight, no slack. Mechanic spliced in a section and all is well.

The same thing happened to my 2000 Ranger today. My transmission is slipping as well and it has difficulty moving from first gear. Did that happen to you?

Default Ranger ABS light

I just had to send my 2000 ranger 3.0 in shop for hard shifting between 1 and 2 and speedometer was out. The pig tale to the rear end speed sensor was bad plus the sensor was replaced. There are also ABS speed sensors in the Left front and Right front hub assembly. My Left front shorted out along with the computer control module going bad. If the front speed sensors go out they will cause the tranny and speedometer to act up because there is no signal going to the main computer to tell it that there is any movement and to register that to the speedometer. The L or R front sensors are about $180 each. The shop bill ended up being $710.00. One more thing, don't ever disconnect the bulbs, leave them lit, if you pull them, it will screw up your computer and whole system, they need to stay in...I learned the hard way Hope this helps someone.

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger that the speedometer was not working below 30mph, was shifting hard, and the ABS light was on. Read this Forum, replaced the ABS sensor, everything as good as new. Thanks for the help.

Default ABS and Emergency brake lights on 1993 Ranger

Howdy all,
New to the forum but looking for some help. I have a 1993 Ranger XLT with 4.0 Automatic. I have the ABS and emergency brake light come on after about 5 minutes after driving the car. They stay on until I shut off. Then same thing after restart. I replaced the rear wheel speed sensor yesterday and same issue.

Is there anything else you folks can recommend?. Do I have to disconnect the battery to reset the codes or should I run with the new sensor and have the the computer reset due to error not found?

Thanks
