Hello, I have a 1998 Ford Ranger with 232,000, 3.0L, automatic, that I purchased knowing that the engine was knocking. I pulled the engine and installed used one with 78,000 miles. Completed the install and started engine, went to full throttle and I turned it off, started back up, full throttle, did this 5 times, on the 5th time I stomped the throttle as if you would on a carb. to kick off the fast idle. The engine died. Talked with a friend and recommended changing the TPS, I had the throttle body from original engine so I swapped it. Checked all fuses started engine, ran great. I turned it off to tighten transmission lines that I forgot to tighten up. Started engine again, let it idle and finished putting antifreeze in the radiator and the engine stopped again. Tried to start again but it would not start. I have a crank but no start symptom. I am not getting any spark. I have changed the coil pack and crank sensor just to see because I had extra one from original engine, still the same thing. I got schematic’s and did some troubleshooting and determined that the fuel pump relay has power but apparently it has no ground. Once the fuel pump relay energizes it allows 12 volts to one of the terminals on the PCM. I do not have the 5 volt reference at the TPS. I ohm checked the engine wiring harness and the circuits that I suspected all ohm good, grounds ohm good.
I have been searching a lot online and see that several Fords have this problem, I am open to any suggestions.
