Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default 1993 ranger, fuel problem?

1993 Ranger 3.0 engine, replaced fuel pump, fuel pump relay and fuel filter. The truck cuts in and out and bucks. The check engine light flashes while this bucking is happening. Tried to get code from computer with an OBD I device, the Actron OBD I device does nothing but beep as soon as I hook it up. That was a good $30.00 down the drain with the OBD reader. Any ideas? pete@dolfan.org

You may have a bad code reader.

Just in case that code reader you bought is bad, you can try doing it the manual way.
All you need is a 4 inch pice of wire and the ability to count to ten. The codes will be flashed to your dash's Check engine light.

Please let me know if this method works for you.

I had the same problem you had. The truck would buck, not run right, stall. Hard to start. I thought it was a fuel problem as well. I even changed the fuel pump and sending unit. It also would not read the fault codes with the code reader. It did have a bad sending unit. Anyway, I started to lean to the computer as the problem. So I pulled it and inspected it, by pulling the cover off and I saw some bad components on the circuit board. 3 capacitors looked like they were bad. I replaced them and that took care of my problem. It runs like night and day now. I have a 1993 Ford Ranger withe a 4.o engine and it is a 5 speed. The code reader reads the codes now, now that the computer is working properly.
