Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default A/C Heater Problem

I have a 1998 Ranger reg cab. The heat works fine and the a/c works but it kicks in on every setting except for the floor only one (you can hear and feel the motor kick on). Also Max a/c is the only one that actually produces air conditioned cold air. The defrost is HOT even if on coldest setting. My dome light and door ajar light stay on but I think I found out that wd40 should fix that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like your selector switch is not working as it should. The selector switch controls vaccum switches which then control dampers to direct the proper combination of air mixture. Regarding your light problem, check the boor push button switch to make sure its free to depress in and out.

Default Dome light

Todd,
If your 98 Ranger is like mine, we do not have the standard door switch like most vehicles. There is a relay somewhere in the vehicle that is probably bad. When I bought mine, I had to have that replaced and it works fine now. Wish I could tell you what the part is and where it is located but I can't.

I would agree with donsor, it sounds to me like the damper actuator is not functioning as it should and the air is not mixing properly, the compressor should kick on on the defrost cycle that is normal, but the temp should be adjustable from hot to cold. The temp.control could very well be the problem.
