Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Cool 1990 Super Cab Won't Go In Overdrive

Hi,

I have a 1990 Ford Ranger Super Cab w/ the 4.0L V6. Just recently I have experienced, on two separate occasions, no movement in overdrive. When I give it gas it sounds like I am in neutral. I checked to make sure it was in gear and it appeared to be. However, if I put it into normal drive everything works okay. If later on I switch back to overdrive, again everything appears normal. Any thoughts?

Jeff

well, jeff i am here or the same reason. i have the 91' ranger w/ 4.0l v-6 and adl 4 spd autotrans. except when i put it into od after i get going it starts slipping now, so i put it into drive possition again and it is fine
? is this a internal sellinoid problem or does it have a electrical sellinoid that a wire fell off. should i install a new filter and fluid?
thnx Patrick

if you re pushing the od button on the side of the shifter its turning it off and will raise your rpms its like downshifting a manual car. if you are just driving it in regular od on the column then check your linkage and whatever electrical connections their are
