Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
I have a 85 ford ranger
Ok here is my story I have to tell it this way so maybe will know what is going on....
In the morning I start my little truck an 85 2.8 carb motor.
I push the pedal three times and turn the key the truck starts great... the engine runs about 5 min and then acts like it's loading up but I think it's cutting out...
So I push on the pedal and release the choke the truck comes down to ruff idle and then cuts out and stops running.
Ok if I then restart the truck won't start started it will cut out and quite.
But if I leave the truck off for about 10 min and then restart the truck it runs normal again.
If I'm in a hurry and drive the truck will keep cutting out till I stop for 5 to 10 mins then runs great the rest of the day.
Any ideas????????
I have new carb, dist, fuel pump, coil, wires, cap, plugs, rotor, air cleaner, pvc, no vacum leaks....
Thanks for your help

Sounds like you've got water in your fuel and the carb is vapor locking. Water will seperate from the gas while your truck is sitting for long periods. Try pouring some water treatment in the tank and then jostle your truck to mix it. Start and drive it. If this fixes it, don't go back to the last station you got gas from.
Great Idea...I was just going over to fill the tank this morning so I'll stop by the parts store first and give that a try...I hope it does the trick Thank you for giving me something to try!
good luck my friend i have an "84" with the 2.8. been the whole route myself. new carb, checked for vac leaks, rewired half the engine compartment, new plugs, wires, pcv, 02 sensor etc., and even took it to a mechanic. still runs like crap. the smog stuff is gonna be the end of me. am ready to give up and just bite the bullet and do an engine swap to maybe a 302(5.0). if i can get someone to do it and still pass smog i think i'm gonna do it. i'm tired of throwing money and time at this thing. there are a lot of positives about the 2.8, but not with smog. living in the city i have no choice if i want to register it. no one wants to work on it.
Ok Ok I've figured it out.....it was the voltage regulator the one bolted on the fender well.....I have changed just about everything on this motor and that was the last of the electric to be replaced and it did it the truck runs great!
Wow! The voltage regulator? You must have had some serious low voltage. Be sure to take it to a parts store and have them load test the rest of your charging system. This will give you the state of health on the battery and alternator/generator.
have also had conditions when engine ran rough and even showed sighns o loosing power also detected ignition problems blew out dist roter and cap parts wharehouse looks as if distributer was shifting up and down and sticking preffer to your ideasl and use mechanic skills such as shop diognosses well whrighting in responce computer replased and have added to your cost and done transmision becouse it jumped out of gear popped hard and replaced overdrive gears and have replaced flywheeland larger clutch and slave mech however most recent have foun that key switch wont hold ignition swiching mechanition in ?? and mechanism wont stay engaged have recenlty replaced both and have definatly enjoyed long driving hours my 4x4 will turn on a dime in 4x4 and have exsperiance the great chance of turning on key pump accelerator and it will definatly start and have as well replaced coil its now getting cheaper dont beleave the voltage regulator once suspected same problem and tested it earlier some 2.8 as mine will need full tune up and idle testing reset now dont have an 85 computer have an 84 --nocodes while running the exstended idle is nit present to give complications by dropping into 4x4 and getting distrought about not completing tune ups
