2000 Ranger front suspension crunch My 2000 Ranger 4x2 4.0L 5-spd Sport has had a crunchy noise in the front suspension since it hit about 100,000 mis. It now has about 110K. "Crunch" is about the best way to describe it. The only modifications are Bilstein shocks put in long ago. Having worked in the auto service business years ago, I know to look for noises like this with a mechanic's stethoscope or a reasonable substitute like an extra large flat blade screw driver with the tip on the source & the handle against your ear. That said, I believe the noise is being generated by the upper control arm bushings. I plan to call Ford & investigate their TSB's but would like to know if others have experienced this & the fix. The bushings have no signs of typical control arm bushing wear such as shifting, weather-checking, or missing chunks of rubber. I did "listen" to the upper ball joint & the upper shock mount, but the noise peaked when I put the listening device right on the bushings. |
