Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Unhappy Problems with our 93 Ranger

Hello,

My husband and I have a 93 Ford Ranger, 2.3 liter, manual transmission. We love our little truck for work and local trips. We have taken it to 2 mechanics both of which cannot tell us much. My husband usually does the repairs but can't figure this one out. The pulled the codes 224 and 998 when it started to back fire (all the plugs have been changed). It said it was the SPOUT circuit. So we bought an ignition control module, coils and now someone suggested we try to just change the ECU. After several hundreds of dollars, we just want it to run again. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has the motor been checked for vacuum leaks and MAF sensor problems. Sometimes backfiring can also be a result of ign. timing. Sorry but there a lot of variables here and it may require a pricey "process of elimination"
