Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default clutch problem

I have a 98 ford ranger 5 speed. im not sure what the problem is maybe someone knows where i can begin to troubleshoot. it feels like its missing a spring or somethig. when you press the clutch it just sinks to the floor with no resistance. but if u press it fully to the very bottom it still starts and i can shift through every gear. but the car wont move. if you put it into gear and let the clutch all the way up it wont stall either. ive never experienced anything like this. maybe someone knows what i should look at. could it be the transmission?

Not likely to be the tranny, I had a similar issue with my clutch about 2 years ago. Check your hydraulic clutch fluid (the reservoir is located on the inside of the drivers side fender next to the main fusebox) If the fluid is low as I suspect it might be, there is probably a leak somewhere in the hydraulic system. In my case it was the slave cylinder that failed and the labour cost 3x as much as the part because they had to drop the transfer case and transmission out of the truck to replace it.

If not a problem with the fluid level I'd suggest the slave cyclinder. Had similar problem with F-150 that proved to be a faulty cyclinder. The pressure in the cyclinder isn't releasing when the clutch pedal is let out. Mine was worse in cold weather. Unfortunately, the F-150 slave is outside the bell housing, your's is inside.
