Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default 1998 Ranger hesitation during acceleration..

I hope you guys can help me out, I have a 98 Ranger XL 3.0L V6 that has been having hesitation problems. In the mornings when I'm accelerating the engine seems to have a lot of hesitation like there is no gas getting to the engine. After driving it for about ten minutes the problem seems to go away. I took it to the shop to see if they could find anything wrong but they told me that the hesitation would happen for about 30 seconds and by the time they got to the engine to see what was causing it, the problem would go away. I was thinking that it might be a fuel pump problem but I was hoping it was some kind of simple fix. Does anybody have any Idea what could be causing this problem? By the way the temperature has been falling at night now. Thanks for your help.

I took my truck to another shop and come to find out that I needed a major tune up. New spark plugs, Wires, Coil spring package, fuel filter, and PCV valve. I have had fuel filter and spark plugs change before but come to find out that spring package was really not in good shape. Total cost with labor was around $450.00. The spring package is what cost the most! I believe the tech told me that they had to get the part from Ford and it was around $150. Everything works great now.

Timing wouldnt jump back and forth like that, it is either off time or on time.

How many miles on it?

I am guessing it needs a Tune-up/fuel filter because the weather is effecting the running condition.

Actually the timing curves change during closed loop and open loop. I doubt that is a a problem though as the curve is actually more agressive in the closed loop, and the original post says the vehicle is short of power when cold.
