Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Bigger Tires

HELLO. I have a '97 ford ranger, 4x4, supercab and I'm thinking about putting bigger tires on it. It has 235/75/r15's on it now, and i want to fit in bigger tires, maybe 31's or somehting close to that. Does anyone know if I'd have to lift it a couple inches or not? if so, would a front end leveling kit fix this problem or would i need a full suspension or body lift? It seems likes theres plenty of room in the rrear for big tires, but not enough room up front for them. Please, any suggestions would be helpful.

The first question I have for you is what motor do you have? If you have the 4.0 its weight causes the front of the truck to "sag" and reduces tire clearance. Either way you'll be tough pressed to run 31's with no lift. I have a Skyjacker 6" lift on my ranger (same exact model as yours w/ the 4.0) and run 32x11.50's with no problems. I do know a few guys that run 33x12.50's but you usually get some rubbing and need to trim the front fenders. The cheapest way to get bigger tires under there is with a 3" body lift from performance accessories. It will run you about 200 bucks and take you a weekend to install. You would definitely be able to run 31x10.50's with the 3" body lift.
