Ford Sport TracThe Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a four-door, five-passenger, midsize pickup. It was unique when it first appeared in 2000, but today it must compete with midsize four-door pickups from every major player. Essentially a Ford Explorer with a pickup bed, the Sport Trac offers plenty of room inside for people and out back for cargo.
Sport Tracs have a potentially dangerous issue regarding the deterioration of the rubber body mount bushings...these are what holds the cab to the frame. The ones on my '01 are so badly deteriorated that what rubber is left will crumble in my fingers. I have also inspected others, especially '01-'02 models, and have found a similar situation. This appears to be an emerging problem that with time will have many Sport Tracs on the road with a hazardous issue. Ford will not yet acknowledge this problem...please check your bushings and report deterioration to Ford Motor Co. You will find these 6 rubber bushings...3 per side...between the cab and the frame of the vehicle.
