Ford Sport TracThe Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a four-door, five-passenger, midsize pickup. It was unique when it first appeared in 2000, but today it must compete with midsize four-door pickups from every major player. Essentially a Ford Explorer with a pickup bed, the Sport Trac offers plenty of room inside for people and out back for cargo.
Hi. I'm in the market for either a crew cab 4 door small pick up OR the Sport Trac.
The reason I'm hesitating to look at the Sport Trac is because the MPG of the truck is low. I know that Chevy offers a 4 door crew cab Colorado pick up with a 4 cyl engine that gets 24MPG hwy.... and I really don't need a lot of power... its basically just to haul my family around and the occasional item in the back.
This being said, I saw a post out online from some guy that says he "tuned" his truck with a computer and he went to 28MPG on his 2005 Sport Trac.
My question is... is this really possible and is it something that I could have done if I buy one of these trucks???
whatsup dude,
yea you can increase the gas mileage easily...
1. Take you foot out of it
most of your gas mileage problems are because people like to mash the pedal. watch your driving habbits.
2. SCT power programmer
you can get custome tunes from economy settings to performance settings, once u get one youll wonder how you ever drove with out it.
3. Zabteck Throttle Boddy
4. Cold Air Intake
5. Exhaust
More air in, more air out, more power, more gas mileage
Try to imporve the Horsepower per pound ratio which will also help.
5. Exhaust More air in, more air out, more power, more gas mileage"
This comment is false to a point. You will need Exhaust that was designed for your car with the correct diameter pipe size, too big of a pipe and MPG will drop.
Also "More air in, more air out, more power, more gas mileage" is wrong.... it should read "More air in, more air out, more power, LESS gas mileage"
Never heard of any car that sucks more air in and pumps more air out gets good MPG.
You can put a 100MM TB on a car and a 12" Exhaust and still only pump in and out so much air because your heads, intake (after the TB) and engine can only flow so much. Your strongest part of your intake and exhaust system is actually the weakest point, what this means is your heads, intake (after the TB) and engine can only flow so much air with out being modified.
Picture 2 funnels where the 2 small ends are together. 1 big part is the intake and the other big part is the exhaust, what you have in the middle is the stock engine so no matter how big your intake and exhaust is it is still getting choked at the engine.
Usually with any Performance upgrades you loose MPG if you put your foot to the floor anytime. I havent seen any performance upgrade that actually gained any MPG yet.
