Ford Taurus X The Ford Taurus X, so named because it shares the same platform as the Ford Taurus, is a 7-passenger mid-size crossover SUV. The car is positioned between the 5-passenger mid-size Ford Edge and upcoming 7-passenger full-size Flex crossover SUV. The design of the Taurus X closely resembles that of its sibling, the Ford Edge, creating a family face for its crossover segment.

Default Initial Ford Taurus X Topic

I created this forum because it seems to be an up and coming Ford model and of course we wanted to get cover everything that Ford does. Also, I recently got my wife a Ford Edge and these vehicles seem to very similar. I wanted to see if anyone has one of these bad boys and can give me an honest run down on the driving impressions.

The Taurus X is the upgraded Freestyle. I do not own one, but have had a test drive, and 3 test drives in the Freestyle. I have not test driven the Edge.

Since I don't accelerate quickly or drive fast the new 3.5 liter in the X is of no benefit, I preferred the 3.0 and CVT of the Freestyle because of its linear acceleration and lack of high speed shift down umteen gears when getting on the freeway. The X has 6 forward gears like the Edge and the shifting is perfect both up and down in normal city and highway conditions. The 3.5 liter engine is very smooth and silky and responds instantly.

The steering on the X is excellent, even better than the Freestyle. It holds a straight line on the freeway and is not bothered by anything, side winds, 18 wheelers at speed, road imperfections. It is confidence inspiring in a straight line and when holding a line around a long sweeper, no steering correction required. There is no torque steering that I could detect.

The suspension is very smooth when going down off curbs, the lack of any kind of jolt is quite different to anything I have driven before. The suspension is softly sprung and the tires were 65 aspect ratio so a little more jiggly than I would have preferred. I think the 18 inchers with 60 series tires would resolve all that. The suspension absorbs everything that I could find at speed and slow driving, very comfortable.

The X is very nice inside, about comparable with the Edge, but much bigger. The new leather seats are soft and luxurious and a big improvement over the Freestyle leather which is much stiffer, but still nice. The third row seats on the X are adult sized with lots of headroom, just like the Freestyle. The X is a full 7 seater with lots of luggage room besides. The X 3rd row can be set up for tailgate parties. The X is very quiet inside, quieter than the Freestyle. On the freeway you don't notice any change in radio volume, while on the Freestyle you could hear the automatic volume increases for the radio as speed increased. The X is very comfortable, spacious and well laid out.

The Haldex computer controlled AWD of the Freestyle which owners liked very much because of its instant action, is replaced by the Ford AWD from the Edge. I have not had the opportunity to try either.

I do not understand why Ford do not market the X, it is one of their best vehicles.

If your exhaust tip is larger than your cylinder bore, then you are a Ricer.

Stands for crossover as in Xover. The crossovers are supposed to incorporate the best features of the SUV (stance, road visibility, light go-anywhere capability), mini-van (passenger and cargo accommodation), car (driving dynamics).

I sat in the Edge a little while ago and thought it very nice. I should try one out soon.

Bad name in my opinion. I have been a Ford nut for a long time, if I dont get it I am sure the majority wont either.

Hi I am new to this forum and I had a couple of questions. Is the Taurus X really going to seize to exist in 2009? And has there been problems with the Taurus X 7 seater? I order my Taurus X in January and will be picking it up in May and at the time of order I could order the car with 7 seats and ultimate pkg (power lift, heated seats and auto fold second row seats). Ford will not make any 7 seaters with ultimate pkg and I don't know why. Since I placed my order before the changed happened I still can have the car with the seats and pkg. I just don't know if this is a safety thing or not. Please help.
