Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 93 Taurus, having trouble removing starter.

I have a 93 Taurus with a bad starter, a friend of mine came over to help me replace it and we can not get it out. We have removed two bolts that attach to the engine block (assuming that is all that is physically holding it in) and disconnected all the wires needed to remove it.

The starter it's self will wiggle a little bit but it wont pull out like it should. Several theories are that it is either stuck somehow to the gears internally or maybe there is a third bolt somewhere that we are missing....

If anyone has any experience with this please let me know...

-Thanks

I think the starter is attached with 2 bolts, but there is a bracket at the other end.

No, there are 3 on the flange, one is a stud for the ground cable and one hides behind a rib on the tranny case. There is also a bracket on the rear.

Sounds like a 4 cylinder starter, they had 3 "bolts". Only V6 in '93.

I am having the exact same problem on a 95 taurus which I believe is the same car. The starter is unbolted and all of the wires are on hooked but it will not come out it will just wiggle in place. There are only 2 bolts on this starter and a stud to hold it in place and the same can be said for my replacement starter. I can't figure out whats wrong here and I have changed 10+ starters before but never one on a Taurus. The one I am working on has a 3.8 V6 in it.

Have you removed the bracket at the end with the electrical connectors? The bracket attaches the starter to the block.

there are three bolts for a starter in a 93.

I replaced two in my 93 wagon 3.0

Than I just took it out recently when parting it out. The one bolt is very hard to see. I thought there were two until my father showed me the third.

There is three tho

If the head broke off just remove the starter and unscrew the rest with pliers. It should not be tight. If for some reason it is, get a small set of screw extractors from the hardware store and follow the instructions.
