For those of you who own the ford Taurus I would like to address a common problem many people experience. This problem affects years from 96 up to 2002. Many of you who experience the rough idle then the car dies. This is a result of a shot fuel pump the pumps are very cheap. I have contacted ford and was told about the fuel system problem.
In the summer it becomes what you call vapor locked a condition where only fumes travel through the fuel system. This is caused by the faulty pump. In cold weather the car may not start at all. If you are experiencing any of this replace your fuel pump and filter.
Also check your gas mileage if you seem to be stopping at the pump more often then you should that would be another indication that the fuel pump may be on its way out. Another good piece of advice If your Taurus wont start check in the truck behind the side wall on the right side if the fuel pump switch has been tripped and excessive engine revving hasn’t been used The fuel pump is shot.
The most common problem in these pumps going out is using Ethanol it’s a much argued topic but I can tell you if completely corroded my fuel pump using 10 percent Ethanol blend. This is my 3rd fuel pump in my 99 that is going out. Consider this next time your Taurus takes a turn for the worst.
What you will experiance when starting with a bad fuel pump. Engine turns over car immediatly dies usually shakes badly before it dies. Any attempt to Rev the engine makes the car die immediatly. In cold weather it may not start at all.
