Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 89 3.0 won't shift out of 1st

Last weekend it wouldn't shift out of first gear. It did that for two days, then the third day it started shifting again. Called a transmission guy, he took it and flushed the fluid and changed the filter. We drove it home that afternoon and it shifted fine. That same day, two hours after we parked it, we tried going out in it and again it wasn't shifting.

I've called a different transmission guy, since obviously the first one didn't know what he was doing. Anyone have any idea what might cause this transmission to stop shifting? I'm hearing $900-$1000 to replace shift solenoids.

Replace tranny's VSS vehicle speed sensor.
Your old car was overdue for the VSS crapping out.
THe tranny is in limp_home mode (2nd gear).
You needed the tranny fluid change, anyways.
