Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default Looking to buy a Taurus, but it has some problems

New to the forum, but have a question. We are looking at a 1996 Ford Taurus, but the person selling it says it has some electical issues. He's really not sure, but someone told him it has some electrical issues. He says it starts and moves, but you can't drive it. We checked with the local Ford Dealer and they thought perhaps a transmission sensor, but of course, we can't get any solid answers until we buy and get it to a dealer. It has low miles and is a great price, we just don't want to get stuck with something that is going to be money pit.

We also have a Ford Windstar and haven't had a any troubles with it.

Thanks!

Honestly, if it isn't a really good price, I would steer clear. You never know what has happened to the car, and electrical problems are usually the hardest to track down/fix. I would suggest getting it fixed before you buy it.

see if you can find out if it was water flooded. smell the carpets. water flooding, especially salt water, ruins electrical contacts. if you can get it for less than 1000, it might not be too bad of a risk because remember, you can always junk it and get back about 300 since metals are so valuable now. don't buy it if it's the 24 valve. they have too many problems.

I was a Ford guy !!!!!

Based on what I see here I aint the only one not winning this battle. < grin >.
