gotta give our automakers credit where it's due . My 96 gl has never blown a headlight! I come home at night from work 5 days a week so I definitely use them. My old 89 taurus blew a head light almost every year. they're doing something right. I wonder if they sell replacement LED bulbs. they would probably use less electricity so you'd get better gas mileage but probably not noticeable.

The filament is tungsten in a halogen gas, as the filament superheats, the tungsten metal bonds with the halogen gas and floats off the filament. With convection currents, the gas cools, and the metal is redeposited on the filament, so it almost never blows because a burned out filament.
