Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 1999 se electrical weirdness

Hoping someone might know about this. Problem started out a couple months ago when I noticed that the dash lights took a few seconds to come on after turning on the headlight. It did this a few times and stopped. Now, it has started doing that, AND the transmission is having trouble shifting, it's winding out very long and jumping between shifts, while it does this the speedometer jumps and plummets randomly. Then everything goes completely back to normal. The tranny only does this for a few moments, and the needle dance always occurs simultaneously. Also, honking the horn seems to bring these problems on, or is at least related. It's not showing any error codes from the auto zone guys. Anybody have any ideas for me? Thanks

GEM module maybe... the trans and speedo problem may be a speed sensor, and different from the dash lights...

HEY....I know this thread is old as hell but my 99 taurus is doing the exact same thing. I replaced the speed sensor on it yesterday and thought it cured the problem but on the way to work this morning it did the same thing. GEM module was mentioned. Would this be the problem if its not the speed sensor and, god forbid, who expensive is it to replace???????????Help please. Only car I have at the moment............

Talking I had same issue

I had the same problem with the speedometer acting wierd! I removed the whole guage cluster and in the back the one trace to the speedometer was not making a good connection. I 1st tried cleaning the traces off that didn't help so i had to run a wire from the back on the terminal on the speedometer to the harness and not its been 2 yrs and no more dash issues....
