Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 2000 Taurus rpm's follow speed of car when releasing gas pedal

I have a 2000 Taurus 3.0 Single OHC FFV and when driving down the road, the rpm's don't drop when you let off the gas pedal. When you put the car into neutral, the rpm's even climb 200-500 rpm's and will increase with and increase of speed or decrease with a decrease in speed.. they follow the speed of the car. (when in neutral). I replaced the IAC and put new plugs and wires.. nothing has helped. The gas mileage was and is still terrible after i replaced the IAC and plugs and wires.

Default '98 Taurus FIX.

This sounds similar to the problems I was having with my '98 Taurus. After throwing a bunch of money at it replacing the IAC, EGR, AND Throttle Position Sensor, I discovered that the hose from the PCV valve to the return tube was worn by rubbing against the Throttle body. On my '98, w/ the 3.0 ltr 24V DOHC engine, the PCV valve is located UNDER the throttle body, and the hose had rubbed it for quite a while.
Replacing it changed its performance quite drastically.
Let me know if it works for you.

It really depends on the situation. If i feel like making noise i'll downshift and let my muffler wind down. it sounds so sweet when it does that. if im near a cop tho, i'll just throw it into neutral. Also, if im coming up to a light that's about to turn green, i'll try to downshift into second and roll through the light.

Definitely sounds like a vacuum leak. Gas mileage is bad because the computer is most likely trying to dump in extra fuel to make up for the lean condition.
