Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 1999 Ford Taurus HEADUNIT INSTALLATION

I Have a 1999 Ford Taurus. I Am Trying to Install A headunit. They Have One Wiring kit for this car. Because you probaly know tauruses have the worst stereo design possible that ugly oval. Heres the thing the adapter is only for maual climate Controls. Are you asking yourself why does the climate controls have anything to do with the Headunit. Because there Both Connected thats why. Anyway i dont have manual Climate Controls i have the fancy all digital climate controls that i choose the temp's degree. So is my only option to go to a junkyard or some ford store to buy the other type of stereo with the simple manual Climate Controls. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions!

Here is the link to the adapter!

What have you found out about the cost of a “custom” setup? The Metra adapter panel and wiring harnesses alone will run $100. Then add the cost of the new deck.

Mine is all manual HVAC controls and I already have the adapter kit. Now I just have to take the time to install it all.

And there's still no options for the 2005s, right?

Somehow the passenger airbag system is routed thru the center area, and that's what causes issues with anything other than factory.

There are several different options as far as the brand of cd changer the retailer or manufacturer could tell you if it plugs to it. If I remember right the factory changers were pioneer. The hook ups for them are in the trunk. Look on the drivers side of the car behind the dress up carpet and you will see the factory amps,it make take a little bit of searching.. There should be a wire that is there to hook up a CD Changer tied down somewhere on the top of the wheel well. Most of the cars have the hook up in the back since it was a cost saver to reduce the number of wire harnesses that had to be designed for the different options.

You could go the route that you are looking at ,replace the digital control for a manual to put the headunit in. If you are wanting a changer I would suggest that you reroute the wire to the center console if you have the console shifter. You may need to get some extra cable to accomplish it but you would not have to worry about getting out of the car to change CD's. The factory location I hate on my 98 because of having to get out plus when you go to extract the magazine to change CD's you can get debris and moisture is able to fall into the opening.

You have another option. If LOUD is your goal. Consider looking out for the MACH RCUs. They can be had for as little as $50.
This is the Upgraded/Premium sound that ford offered. From what I am told on the Taurus Boards I lurk, that this is much better than some of the aftermarkets available. That it can make ears bleed with 3 or 4 volume bars.

Consider what you are adding an aftermarket radio for. Is it for CD. The CD heads for the Taurus especially the '99s can be cheap on eBay. MP3 playback? You can also get AUX input adapters and iPod integration kits for these.
Granted that those integration kits are not cheap. But much better then dropping
$50 on a plastic install kit. Plus you have the look of factory. Not sure if you have seen these or not, but these kits look awful when they are installed. Take a look @ taurusclub.com. You have options here :-)

It sucks to have this road block. if you have a Gen 3 Taurus (96-99) some have taken the "football" with digital climate controls and have "separated" the radio functions. And make the factory head into an install kit. Doesn't look that awful.

So, think about what you got here. Hop over to taurusclub.com there is always "someone" selling the MACH RCU.
