Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Is the one key you got with the car an original key or a replacement ?

Either way, you will need to remove the lock cylinder (not that difficult once you have the inside door panel is removed) and then take both of them to a certified locksmith and explain your problem. Have the locksmith make you an extra key or 2. It cost me $25, but mine works perfect now.

If you have power look locks, you probably have remote keyless entry.

Easy to do once you find the connector they reference in the instructions. Oh, you need a special tool. A half of a paper clip!

Under the dash somewhere. Why do you care ? You don't need to acces it.

It depend on what ever car and exactly which type of key fob/receiver you have. Older (my vehicle is a 1998) used the "paper clip in the connector" to initiate the programing sequence. Newer (don't know the exact model year) used the 8 On/Off cycles.

I believe both beeped the horn to indicate that they were ready to be programmed.

P.S. The folks at that eBay store were very help full. If I have not answered you question(s), ask them. Don't waste your money on a "new" key fob. The used ones work just fine, if you get the correct one !

Newer cars have a "chip" built into the top of the key which works with the Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) to say this really is the correct key.

I don't think your car has PATS. Is the one key that you have an original Ford key ? If not, you probably don't have PATS. Without PATS, any locksmith/hardware store can make a copy.

If you do have PATS you will need a special blank either from the dealer or some locksmiths and you will have to pay them to "program" it.

99 Taurus is standard with PATS. Any properly equipped locksmith can make a key.
