Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Exclamation 99' Trans Cooler Seal Leak

I have a 1999 Taurus SE that has been having tranny trouble due to a leak around the transmission cooling line coupling (one that goes INTO the transmission not the radiator). I took the old one out, bought a new one at the closest auto parts store and put the new one in.

Now it started leaking worse than the original coupling. The pipe has no visible cracks and I can't feel anything. It looks in perfect shape. The new coupling is exactly the same as the old one, the only difference is the black thing that I found.

What am I missing to make this thing stop leaking?

Parts I have (new and old):

What the pipe looks like:

Please help.

There are several different types of tubes & quick connects because Ford like to mix everyone up, you probably got the wrong type. For example, here's the tube off my 95:

That's kind of odd though, since it looks just like my old one :\

Not to mention they typed my car into the computer and gave me this one.

For my 95 there is this kind that requires a tool to disconnect:

And there is this kind that you can disconnect by hand:

No other car that I've owned has it been so hard to get the correct parts. The other day I called a parts store looking for 3 items and they looked on their computer and yes they had all 3. So I get there and not one of the 3 parts was correct. They didn't have any of them. Ford is a nightmare for changing parts and making different incapatible parts for the same purpose.

I might add it helps to lube up the tube with some ATF when installing to keep from damaging the o-rings during installation. And of course cleanlyness is next to Goddlyness, any dirt could cause a leak.

Be sure it is seated good. Clicks in when seated. Just a thought. If it keeps leaking get a brass barb fitting to replace the bad fitting and use a piece of fuel line to join the barb fitting and the transmission line. Be sure to push gas line to the second bump on the line and use 1/4" hose clamps. One on the barb and one on each side of the first bump on the transmission line.
