Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

If you swap the engine out you'll have to make sure that the SHO comes with a transmission as well so it can handle the additional torque. You'll also need the SHO's wiring harness and computer. Unless your current engine is causing a lot of problems it'd just be best to stick with the same engine again. Or, find a good, used SHO taurus. I wouldn't recommend it, but it would be possible with a lot of sweat, money and aggrevation!

well my car is causing a whole bunch of trouble the head gasket blew and both the heads were cracked, my lower intake manifold was all dented on the gasket side, and to top it off i suspect that my ECM is busted cause i dont get a spark and i already tested my coil it was fine and i can get the SHO engine for $180 used so i would have to rebuild it

Default good luck

i would not recommend using a SHO engine and trans in a normal taurus because you will need to swap the subframe and all along with the computer harness and computer which is inside the dash, the SHO engine would be a huge upgrade since these engines stock can beat stock mtx mustangs, also in case you didnt know yahama made these engines for ford. best bet with a normal taurus is just go stock engine on them. i got a 3.8 off a 93 sitting around that would match up nicly they are rated 140 hp and 200 ft lbs of tq. many normal taurus are sitting around in junkyards so im sure you could find one

im not sure what kind of taurus it was put in to but my friend has one with a sho engine in it the engines are the same size though so there shouldnt be any major issues with fit,as for the trans if you dont work it too hard it should last a long time.

I would agree with thecrew2999 on the subframe swap. I think you might want to look at a SHO to compare the two, I think that the batteries and the intakes are on differant sides of the car on the SHO than the regular Taurus. The swap has been done, I have seen pictures of some stationwagons that have been turned into SHO's on the SHO sites.
