Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default Sputtering Engine

I just recently had heads (among other things) put on. After a few days I started getting a sputter in my engine. Initially I thought it might be a problem with the fuel system being contaminated from the blown heads, but it got worse today, as well as the check engine light came on. Any suggestions before I call and ream the shop that did the head work?

It might just be air in the cooling system working its way out. Give it a couple more days. The fuel system shouldn't be contaminated from blown heads. If anything else they let some gasket debris fall into the cylinder bores. Did they install new spark plugs? If not, get new ones installed or get the current plug gaps checked. They might have left the plugs in while doing the work and didn't take care where they rested the part down. I'd call them and let them know about the problem, and see what they suggest to do. It might not be their fault, but another problem with the car that was fine earlier, but now that one part has fixed another can easily fail. I would only 'ream' them one, if they tell you that your car's running normally!

In daylight this morning I did another check and found that one of the plug wires were messed up. I picked up some plug wires and did the work myself and the car runs smooth.
