Ford TaurusAlong the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.
A friend has asked me to help him replace both axles on his 1999 Sable...
I've replaced the axles on my civic, so I'm pretty sure I'm up to the task, but I thought I'd check in here to see if there are any quirks I should look out for, any special tools required, etc to do this job. He has a Haynes manual (I won't be able to look at it until this weekend). SO, if you have any information or even some instructions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Ford uses many "one time use only" lock nuts and one time use bolts in its suspensions. Follow their recommendations and replace any of these "one time use" fasteners. Also follow the torque specifications for ALL fasteners, especially the axel nut, as that sets the preload on the bearing. If you replace the axels why not replace the axel seals in the trans? Check the wheel bearings as well.
