Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 01 Taurus -- Bad Output Bearing

Hello all, I'm new... I'm not 100% sure if I'm using the right terminology here so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 2001 Taurus SE, within the last year I have started to have some major vibration under acceleration. I had my brother-in-law take a look at it under a lift and he said that it is the output bearing for the right axle, he explained that this bearing is inside the transmission and would be really expensive to repair. At the time we weren't sure how much longer we would have the Taurus and my husband didn't want to put the money into it.

BUT, now there's a possibility we get rid of our 01 Escape and get an 04-06 Freestar minivan... in which case the Taurus would need to stick around. I'm going to be getting the number of a transmission guy in my area that's supposed to be very reasonable, but I'm just curious what kind of price I should be expecting for this type of job, which I'm assuming is pretty labor intensive.

Thanks for any insight...
