Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default Wheel Bearings?

I have a sort of growling noise from the front pass. side of my 99SE. I suspected it was the wheel bearing. I tried to remove the bearing assembly, but it is stuck in the spindle. I found instructions on line with pics and thought it would just slide out with a bearing puller. All I did was push the axle shaft all the way out the other side. I removed the big 30mm nut on the front and 3 bolts in the back, no problem. I did try a hammer and a punch with no luck. Would a torch around the spindle help? Or do I have to remove the spindle to get it out? I'm not sure the bearing is bad, I wanted to remove it and spin it in my hand to see how it felt/sounded. This is my first experience with front suspension work.
BTW, it was just inspected and they had to replace the front ball joints and tie rod ends. Now the growling sound is louder at about 30-35 mph and then it gets a little quieter.

I used a 2-jaw puller. Instead of pulling the bearing assembly out, it pushed the axle in. And yes, I removed 3 bolts from the rear of the assembly and the big axle nut in front.
