Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Default 02 Ford Taurus

My Taurus has about 60000 miles. Recently, with no prior issues, I began having problems with it not wanting to start. It cranks and cranks but will not turn over. I have dealt with bad starters, I honestly do not think that is what the issue is. Could it be the fuel pump or anything connected to the fuel system? While I know I shouldn't, I step on the gas and hold it while cranking, and then all of the sudden it starts. If I go out and start it back up its fine. If I let is sit for an hour or two, it wont start again, it cranks and cranks again. It seems like its not getting fuel. Any ideas.

If you are looking to throw a part at it you may want to try replacing the Idle Air Control Valve, they are Relatively Inexpensive and that may be your problem, and yes it could be fuel relaited. Good luck - Phish

Before you throw alot of parts at it, have the codes ran and see what you get. Some of the auto parts stores here will read them for free.

I had the same problem with my 94 taurus.
Started good one time,no good the next time, on and off.
It ended up being the fuel pump relay located above the rad.
Barrowed one from the dealer for a week and all was good,
so i bought it, not sure but cost around $600.00.

g-nolet, the fuel pump relay went out on my 93 SHO, a new aftermarket box was $150 for it. I ended up rewiring it myself for about $10 worth of parts. $600 soulds pretty high.
