Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Angry 95' Taurus Spongy brake

I have a 95' Ford Taurus (NOT SHO) i was getting a spongy brake problem earlier then changed the master cylinder and again I encountered the same & changed the brake shoes.

But again I got the same problem about the spongy brake in few days after yelling at the mechanic he bled the brakes (this is the third time) in 2 months.

I want to know what is the exact problem?

WHAT GRADE BRAKE FLUID IS RECOMMENDED BY FORD FOR MY CAR?

PLEASE TELL ME.

THANK YOU,

the recomended break fluid is a regular DOT3 fluid, same goes for any Ford, the spungy problem in your breaks might be the calipers themselves (assuming you have 4 wheel discs) replace the two in the rear or the front and you will find a significant diffrence, no more spongyness or fade

don't just go replacing parts.. inspect the hoses for expansion first. you could have a brake hose expanding when pressure is applied. do you have a good pedal height?? verify the front & rear brake calipers compress and contract.. if you don't have calipers in the rear. check the wheel cylinders for leaking.. pull the boots back to see if any fluid leaks out. if so-- they need replaced. make sure that the brakes are being bled in the correct order---- specially if you have ABS. A small air bubble in the ABS unit can cause a whole lot of unforseen issues.

Another possibility is rear brakes out of adjustment. This will cause a low pedal. Both drum and disc rear brakes adjust when car is stopped while reversing. Don't be too gentle, a firm stop is required.
