Ford TaurusAlong the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.
I changed the fuel Filter, PCV, air filter, distributer cap & rotor, engine oil & filter and the transmission fluid & filter. I won't start now. Not a pop or anything. I had it on ramps when I was doing the work. I checked the fuel pump shut off in the trunk and it was OK.
What else do I need to check before calling a tow?
Thanks for any info, Bob
The most likely problem is to do with the distributor and rotor. How did you mark cap for number 1 cyl to get the right firing sequence? Check that the wires are in the correct firing sequence and fully pressed down on the terminals.
If you have a spare spark plug connect it to one of the plug wires and check the spark.
Can you hear the pump run?
Did you mount the fuel filter in the right direction?
The fuel filter was installed the same as the old one. The cap looks the same as the old one. I marked the wires before I removed them. If I did have a wire on the wrong post, it would still make an effert to start. The rotor only fits one way, the post goes into the slot.
If the wires are wrong it may do nothing. The rotor on the 3.8 turns counter clockwise and the firing sequence is 1,4,2,5,3,6 and the cylinders are 1 is front of engine at back with 2 and 3; then 4 is front of engine on forward bank with 5 and 6.
If there is no fuel the engine will not do anything either. You can squirt some gas carefully in the intake to see if that fires.
