Ford TaurusAlong the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.
I recently got a '95 Taurus (24K miles) for my daughter. The other day, when depressing the hazard signal button... nothing flashing. So I press it again (to turn the hazards off), and then the turn signals no longer flash. So, OK, I figure I will need to check into a new flasher, or something, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Then, a few days later, the turn signal starts working again, and the hazard switch also works. Great! Then, this morning the turn signals are not working...
Signal lights can do some funny things if any of the running light bulbs have failed or there is a grounding problem. I would:
1. check if there was a trailer wiring harness attached and whether the wires were connected correctly and not grounding on occasion;
2. check that all the parking light bulbs operate;
3. check that all brake light bulbs operate;
4. check that all signal light bulbs operate;
5. change the flasher control unit;
6. check wiring grounds;
7. check relays and fuses;
8. check wiring;
9. test multi-function switch;
10. test 4 way hazard switch;
11. seek additional help.
Thanks for your response. Yesterday, my daughter "jiggled" the turn signal switch and repeatedly turned on/off the hazard switch, and it started working again. It seems like the multifunction turn / wiper / hazard switch may be going bad. For now, it's working...
I don't know if your switch is the same as is on the 96 Taurus but, I cleaned the switch on my 96 and it works fine now.
CAUTION! Pay close attention to how the parts come out of switch to aid in reassembly.
1. Remove switch from steering column.
2. Disassemble switch by removing about 6-8 screws (don't remember the exact amount).
3. Clean corrosion from switch contacts using a type writer eraser and some electrical contact cleaner.
4. Lubricate switch contacts with dielectric grease.
5. Lubricate mechanical pivot points in switch.
6. Reassemble switch.
7. Reinstall switch on steering column.
