Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

I too have a 2003 Ford Taurus with the same symptoms. I can be cruising down the freeway at 75mph and it acts like it is shutting down for just a second. A bunch of dash warning lights come on, the radio goes off, it feels like it just lost all power... and then it comes back and I can keep going like nothing is wrong. I've had the car in for troubleshooting but nothing is found. Anyway, has anyone else actually been able to find a solution to the problem?

So what happened? Will share for others in future:
I have 1991 Taurus 3.0 for daughter, I'm fixing with same problem. Research showed class action lawsuit recall of Ignition Control Module due to thick film failure. Ford didn't issue recall with data they hid during first 7 years. Judge threw book at Ford for coverup. Trouble is today, the class action replacement and warranty has expired 2005 and replacement ICM is +250.00. See article. USATODAY.com - Ford settles ignition lawsuit

I had the same problem as the initial post. Cruising down the highway and the car would shut off for a second and then turn back on. Sometimes at light the speedometer would start bouncing, and I kept blowing the number #2 spark plug. Dealer kept replacing alternator. However, I discovered there was a recall on for the Taurus earlier model than mine, but same engine. The issue was the ignition coils were failing due to the fact that they were right next to the firewall and the temp was higher than the coil was rated. I changed my coil and all plugs and the problem was cured instantly. I do not know if my issues are the same as all the posting, but the sound very similar to some of the postings.

I know this is an old thread, but still an ongoing problem for some. So I thought I'd share my experience,Although it was a different vehicle. Same problems, would loose all power etc. and die if I wasn't goin very fast. Looked at it myself forever....nothin, took it to the dealer and although they couldn't replicate or find a problem they told me it was the brain "ecm". Well after months and months of this problem to the point of just letting the car sit, one day while I was looking at it again, while I had it running I grabbed a battery post and pulled, twisted and basically tried to bend it and that's when it killed the car. A bad battery all along! It was broke inside or something? Replaced the battery and never had another problem. Now surely this is not everybody's problem but it couldn't hurt to check!
