Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Well I just got back from a small road trip and im very impressed with the mpg's i got. My average was 31.2 mpg It did spike to 32 mpg but we had to stop a few shops my average speed would be around 60 mph. The trip was 333 miles long abd it took us 6 hours and 30 mins. My Taurus is a 2005 with 53,000mls. I Use motorcraft oil in my changes and extra guard oil filters. wix i think. I regulary change oil and had a valvoline tranny change w/out filter @ 43,000mls and it runs really smooth. I am a verry Happy Taurus owner ( touch wood).
I would love to hear other words of encouragement from ford owners

Default Ford Taurus Gas Mileage

I've been trying to find out what kind of MPG I

should be getting from my Ford Taurus, and your

post is the first one that grabbed my

attention.

A couple months ago I bought a 2007 Ford Taurus

SE. When I drove off the lot,the MPG readout

was 23.0; I was disappointed with that.

But wait: the first time I filled up completely

I decided to keep track of the MPG. The readout

varied between 16.7 and 17.0! My manual

tracking was about 16.8 MPG.

This triggers a question in my mind: is it

possible for the dealer to "rig" the MPG

readout to display a "higher-than-true" MPG?

I'm glad for you, rambling man,but it seems the

later models have poorer fuel economy.

"Anything is possible given enough time and money !"

I this case, it would take way too much time and money just to sell one car.

Your car is capable of getting 23 MPG. The things that affects mileage the most is the type of driving you do (city versus highway) and your driving habits.

A local TV station did a short "test trip" (probably less than 20 miles) in a 2009 Lincoln MKS. The difference between the first trip where the reporter was driving "normal" and the second trip where a Ford engineer was telling him how maximize fuel economy (lots of coasting, timing traffic signals, slow acceleration, etc) netted almost 6 MPG better (using the dash display).
