Ford Taurus Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Exclamation 2002 T-Wagon front end noise

Hello,
My girlfriends mothers 2002 Taurus Wagon Is making an odd-noise from the front passenger side wheel assembly. I want to believe the sound is an unballenced tire.
The sound increses until about 25mph where it stay the same pitch.
I'm thinking it could be anything from the CV joint to the wheel.
The car is equipped with a 3.0 Duratec™ 24V DOHC engine If you need to know.
The car does not shake in the steering and can break in a straight line without hands on. the wheel. The noise has not effected drivability but has decreased the gas mileage.
The car also has 120,000 miles on all the way from highways to dirt roads to hiking trailheads.

If you could tell me what to look for i'll try to either fix it or send them to a shop.
I have a full-size garage at home and have exsperiance with mostly 4-wheel drives.
I can do mostly basic stuff like pulling apart front axles and rebuilding disk breaks but I can't do transmissions and I couldn't unpack MacPheresons if had to so if it has to go that far I'll send them to a shop.

Jack it up and turn the wheel, have some help you, and watch for play in the CV joint. Also you could try taking your tire off and running down your local tire store and have them check the balance.
