Ford TaurusAlong the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.
Recently our taurus start shutting off and turning back on instantly while driving as fast as you can snap your fingers its off then back on...when it was diagnosed by my mechanic the codes came back saying something about the anti theft like the car thinks its being stolen?
also on occasion the windows dont roll up or down but when the wires on the drivers door are jiggled it will often work again.. before I make an appointment with ford I would like to know if anybody has ran into similar problems or knows anything about this?
They said best case I need a new key and chip and remote installed worst case its a cluster, or something along those lines? If anybody knows how to fix it or where to start or if the parts are easy to get a hold of and do myself?
I had a very similar problem in my thunderbird, it got better when i replaced the plugs and wires, but sometimes on bumpy roads i still have problems with it

Edit: Sorry its a 2002 taurus SE station wagon
This sounds exactly like what is happening to my wife's 2003 Taurus SE. Driving along, then all electrical turns off and then right back on. I haven't taken it in yet as it just started happening today a couple of different times. Does this seem like something urgent and she should stop driving it until it is looked at, or should she be able to drive it OK for a little bit? Thanks for any help, as my knowledge of cars is minimal at best.
Im not sure...ours has been doing it for about 3 weeks now...the only thing holding me from ford is the fact that they always price gauge when you go there for stuff you dont want done....so far no complications...its actually doing next to never now...maybe 2 or 3 times a week as it was doing it 2 or 3 times a day.
I did a TSB search and found a couple that might pertain to the engine problems you mentioned.
TSB 05-22-12
BUCK/JERK AND MISS DURING DRIVE CYCLE ABOVE 3000 RPM - NO DTC - 3.0L 2V GAS AND FFV ENGINE
TSB 04-11-1
DRIVEABILITY - STREAMLINED DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES WITH MIL ON AND DTCS P0401, P0402, P1400 OR P1401 - ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE RUNS ROUGH, LACKS POWER, SURGE, POOR FUEL ECONOMY
My 2002 Taurus station wagon will, at times, lose all power, and then come back on, instantly. If I am driving at the time, no big deal. But, if I am idling, the engine will die, and I must re-start. I have noticed that the low fuel and theft lights come on when this happens. Also, while I am idling, the speedometer needle fluctuates between 0 and 10 MPH. Another thing is that the headlights will fluctuate between dim and bright and the dome light will at times be dim when I open the door, but gets bright again, in a moment. This problem is getting worse over time. The latest thing is: yesterday morning, when I tried to start the engine, nothing happened when I turned the key; I mean nothing, as if the battery were completely dead. When I removed the key, and tried it again, it started with no problems. I haven't taken it in for service, because these problems are intermittent, and if it doesn't happen while I'm there, it becomes a waste of time and money. Could this be an ignition switch problem?

What exactly does that mean? because that sounds alot like whats going on. Fuel economy definately has taken a plunge lately.
