Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
1988 Tempo with auto trans. Car drive well with 136,500 km. Question I have is why does the transmission suddenly start slipping (engine revs but no torque) when I slow down suddenly, forcing me to throw it into neutral, turn the ignition off and on again and then everything’s normal again?
Its a pretty common problem among cars with older non electronically controlled transmissions, if it does it allot really all you can do is get the tranny rebuilt. For most people its a few times a week deal and you pull over throw it in park, than back in gear and its fine for a few more days.
i had this problem too. there is bands in trans .in winter or cooler weather they slip easy when warmer weather comes around .sometimes its as simple as keeping your trans fluid topped up to middle of fill.make sure u cheq when in idle and on lev ground.
