Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
My tempo for some reason has a very high idle and I cant seem to locate the problem, it seems it may be a vaccum line. I noticed a small hole between the air intakes butterfly and the intake itself, when the hole is covered the idle returns to normal, any ideas???
Yes the idle returns to normal, but i know the hole is for the air needed to idle the car. There is also a problem when the car gets warmer, the idle gets higher.
I have checked many different tempos and the same hole is there and sounds different than mine. Mine sounds like a constant sucking sound compared to the low hum of air in normal cars.
the idle air control valve can get stuck open wil ususally throw and check engine light....
run down to the autoparts store and get a new gasket for the i.a.c. and a can of b-12 chemtool spray in a can
remove the 2 bolts securing the iac to the back of the intake manafold and lay it down and spray b-12 in there until clean b-12 comes out
while your at it give the mass air flow sensors sensors a good shot or two from point blank.
the car wil run and perform better to should clear up the problem....
also remove the hose that goes from the thing you were pluging up in the throttlebody from the throttlebody and inspect it for leaks run some degreaser through it to
like already stated the only other possibility is a vacume leak and if you can hear the immenese vacume from the thing your pluging up and it goes away when you do option 1 is gona be the problem.
