Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
after you drain the anti freeze and remove the belt you can do the rest from the top. Remove the black bracket from the fuel rail (lines or regulator) and then remove the bolts one is hard to get at but if you use a extantion and socket and feel around you can get. the pump will come out but you may to wiggle it out. the worst thing is to clean the old gasket. I can not remmeber if the bottom pipe has a bolt or if it just pushed in!! if you use weather stripping clue it will hold the gasket on so it does not move when you are putting the pump back in. (i glue it to the pump and nothing to the block)
The bolts may require a bit of heat to pop them loose a bit of a pain to do laying under the car, and a 10mm wrench /10mm socket .
Dont forget to remove the serpent belt and replace it, also do the thermostat. And maybe just for farts and giggles do the O2 sensor, since you are under the car.
its not to bad i did mine by getting the car about 3 feet in the air,and going from the bottom you unbolt the downpipe of the pump from the engine pull of the hose and pop it down outa the pump......the small pathetic bracket on the pipe is all that keeps it upright into the pump astonishing really
pump is 2 bolts slides right off put the selaent of choice rtv silicone or gasket maker would work fine did for me and then pop it up into the pump bolt the bracket back down give it at least 24 hours to dry if you choose 4 hours worked for me

Thanks for the info. I had to bite the bullet and take it to a garage for repair. A couple weeks later the car started exhibiting rough idle and under power. Replaced plugs, wires etc. Problem came back. We ended up trading the car in on a 2007 Ford Focus. Wife loves it.
