Ford Tempo The Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.

Default 1988 Ford Tempo Stalling HELP~

Hello,

I wasn't having any luck posting on the other thread so i figured i would try my luck starting my own thread! see this is very important because my parents are very low income, and both handicap. i am 24, i worked 6 years at UPS, but recently left cause we couldn't get anyone to take care of my parents.

short version, my dad has Liver Cirrhosis and has had 4 hip surgery's... recently had his right hip removed. he weighs 220lbs so its quite hard to get him around.

my mom has MS(multiple sclerosis makes her shaky, had to relearn to write with opposite hand and needs a walker to walk), and had a skin problem in which she has no skin from mid shin to ankle on her left leg. it requires cleaning and such 2 times a week at harbor view hospital(some kind of charity thing cuz we cant afford it) and we have been going to the hospital 2 times a week for the past 7 years... the hospital thinks they might be able to get her a skin graph soon(pray to god, she had 1 a long time ago that failed). so we need this car to running properly.

Car : 1988 Ford Tempo Automatic

what happens : the car usually starts up fine, and we leave our house in Kirkland, we go 405 south, hit i90 east, go i5 north and take the first exit... heres the problem, right as we get off the freeway the car kills. and we can start it back up but it will studder and usually not go anywhere. me being young, i can modulate the throttle and bounce it enough to usually get off the road. then we get stuck waiting for the car to cool down, then it drives again.

BUT the car doesn't overheat, and it barely even shows like half temperature. if your over 60mph the car is fine. but if your under it will studder and stall. having the heater full blast helps. the more gas you in the tank helps. when its low its worst. and it usually dies after its completely warmed up, like 10miles or so.

we have taken it to shops, and places no one knows what the problem is. i read that it might be the fuel pump , but we had a friends mechanic work on it, and he ended up keeping the car for way to long, and i think he just sold our fuel pump without installing it. he said thats not the problem and gave the car back. how could i tell if he put the new pump in?

and yeah, anyways i need help getting the car fixed any ideas?

Default Fuel pump

The only way to tell if you have a new pump would be to lower the tank and look on the top of the tank. If the fuel pump sending unit was replaced it should look new but if the pump was the only thing replaced you would have to drop the tank and remove the sending unit to tell.

Hope this helps you.

Default 1993 tempo

I am having same problems. I have replaced a lot of things on the the car so far. Control module, distributer cap, plugs, coil, tps. next I am going to replace the sencer on the thermostat housing that tells the fan to come on. After that I am lost. It improved some when I replaced the tps. Actually reading in these forums this sounds like a really common problem with Tempo's. Hope to figure it out soon.
