Default 93 Ford tempo stalls

Every once in a while my tempo stalls. It used to only stall when I was at a stop. But today I was going about 30 MPH and it stalled and I had to pull over. I added more oil and more radiator fluid but the levels seemed to be ok. Steam was coming out when I opened the oil cap but I assume this is normal? After about 5 min of sitting I got it to start again and haven't driven it since.

Default Would like to add...

Also would like to add that radiator fluid in overflow is fine, but no fluid in radiator, have to add it constantly. Could it be a blown gasket? Even speculations would satisfy me.

I have the same problem, I am told that it is the ignition module. I am going to have it looked at tomorrow so I will let you know.

Bart

Replaced the ignition module, still stalls, I am now looking at the Stater ( a part in the distributor) or the fuel pump relay switch.

Default 93 Tempo stalling

I have the same problem with my son's Tempo.

I'm starting to think it's has something to do with the vacume lines on the car.

Cars fuel pump seems to work just fine... I can keep it at a high idle and it runs good.

I'll be looking at every vacume line to see if it is leaking air.

I'll post here if I find the problem.

Smile Tempo problems

OK guys here is what I found out and it fixed every problem I was having with the vehicle stalling at lights, not wanting to stay running, ideling up and down.

I replaced the throttle position sensor and now the car runs great.

Hope this helps you guys out.

Default High idle

I had a pressure test run on the radiator and it doesn't appear to be leaking any fluid. I took the car on a 3 hour road trip and 1 and a half hours later I pull in to a gas station put the car in park and the rpm sounds like it's idling at around 3500 or higher. I continued driving and my service engine light came on so I pulled over and let the car cool off for about 15 mins. It was a bit harder to start up but it ran ok untill i started driving, it felt like the rpm would just fluctuate and I had to shift in to neutral to slow down. If I only drive the car for about 30 min I don't have this problem but as soon as I go beyond that the high idle kicks in. I don't have a vacuum leak, at one point I did but I managed to fix it. The engine temp was well within normal the entire trip. Is this damaging to the engine to drive with the high idle, I figure it would be at about this rpm level anyway when on the highway. I've been doing some reading and it looks like the Idle air control sensor may be the culprit, but I need to do further research. Thanks for all the responses thus far.

Default Tempo stalling/high idle

Adam,

Did you have the throttle position sensor checked?

I would sugest just taking it off and haveing it checked for free at your local auto store.

The throttle position sensor can make everything your saying happen.

If you keep running the vehicle like you are, you will start damaging things.

Default Found problem..maybe?

I had the throttle position sensor checked 1 year ago, and this was the problem, but now it's solved. Today when the vehicle was idling I decided to disconnect the IAVC sensor, or I think that's what it is, but after doing so the idle became normal. I think if I replace this it should solve the problem of the high idle after driving for a while. How bad is it to drive with it disconnected for a while? I hope this info helps.
