Ford Tempo The Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. Default Blower motor suddenly quit

My wife turned on the AC the other day and the blower fan stopped. I've checked the fuse and it's good. Are these cars known for blower motors/ switches suddenly dying?

It could be a switch or it could actually be the motor for it. The motors have been known to burn out. It's easy to replace them. It should be right behind the glove box.

"Easy" is what I like to hear. Looks like I'll be digging the multimeter out this afternoon and doing some testing. Thanks for the quick response.

I tested the motor and it works fine but there doesn't seem to be any power coming to the speed control switch for it. I tried pulling the AC/ heater controls but just managed to ruin them. I think the problem might have been in there. What are the little "coils" in the duct work just after the blower motor? I managed to blow a fuse messing around with them. I really need to find a wiring diagram for it.

I didn't exactly find the problem but worked around it by running a jumper wire from the blower fuse to the power wire going into the blower motor itself. It still has all the speeds but I can't turn it off completely anymore, which isn't a real problem anyway.

Fortunately, I won't have to worry about it after tomorrow when we pick up her "new" car, a 1994 Topaz we bought with only 103,000 kms and zero rust. (And working AC on this one).
