Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
Hey guys!
I'm new here, but I'll do my best. I'm also swedish, so bear with me.
So aI'm about to buy one of five Tempo's here in Sweden. It has done 50000 kilometers, and it will set me back 5000 sek. That's about 710$.
Now i have a few questions.
1. Is there something in particular that you should look out for with theese cars?
2. How's the rust on Tempo's in general?
3. The one I'm buying has the 3 speed automatic transmission. When you are doing like 60 MPH, how high do the RPM's go? (Not sure how to say that correctly)
4. The car has a broken ball-joint or steering end, don't really remember what it was. But would any of that be an expensive repair?
I just bought a 1994 tempo for my daughter... nice car but it is still a 14 year old car.... I had to replace rear coil springs ,,, front fenders like to rust due to insulation by the door .... and just replaced a moter mount....but the car runs well and fits my daughter good....hope that helps...
#1. Sloppy front steering linkage (tie-rod ends, balljoints)
#2. Normal like any other car.
#3. Around 2000 I would assume.
#4. No, fairly cheap.
For the price you are paying for it I would buy it.

If your Exhaust tip is bigger than your cylinder bore, you are a Ricer!
iv got a 93 tempo w/an auto transmition she's a v6 so she's the best of the bottem of the barral there some good cars though i hear the tranny likes to go out on them and have had some verry minor prob.'s with mine one thing u need to watch out for is the 90's on them the electric moters like to go out (u know like if u have power windows and locks) iv had to replace all 4 power locks on mine and one power window so if u can get one with manual windows and locks that would save u some trouble in the long run but if not then u can simply yank out the locking moters to change them to manual if they fail also try if at all posable to avoid the power seatbelts iv only had a prob with well both of them i gess one i had to replace the other just needed some wd-40 so theres all of 5 of them over there hu? that will make finding parts kinda hard if u dont have any topaz's floating around the merc. topaz has the same power moters as the tempo i dont know about under the hood but i can find those at a local parts store so i dont have to go to the junkyard for them. hope this helped.
My little sister has a 93 tempo 3 speed automatic. It has over 200,000 miles on it, so I can tell you that if you take care of it, It will last.
And at 55 mph, It's around 3000 rpm's.... since it has no 4th gear it screams going above 60mph.. It's probably the best city car iv'e seen in a long time though, I believe it has a 1.4L (or something close to that) 4-cylinder, It gets GREAT mpg in the city.
And I agree, for that price, I would definitely buy it.
Good luck.
I got a 94 Tempo with the auto 3 speed and a 2.3 4 cyl. its got 57,000 miles on it. I know that doesnt sound like alot, but two redneck high school kids learned to drive in it (and get some air). It is THE best car I have had. Nothing has broke on it knock on wood and it will take me anywhere I want to go. I love this car. I think you are making a wise choice if you buy it. It gets good gas mileage and everything. Wonderful car!
Save yourself from the monster! my tempo had a tyrod or something wrong with it... it wasnt 2 terribly expensive, but it scared me to death to drive it. THEN it has a horrible idle problem AND it just broke down and i have NO IDEA wtf is wrong with it! but if u do get it good luck because i got mine for about as much as ur about to pay and i wish to god i would have went without a car awhile longer and got ANY car other than the 1 i have now!
