Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
Hello I just bought a 1990 tempo. runs great. But after a while of driving, I'll come to a stop light and it just dies. I then start it right back up and it is fine for a bit. It seems to not die when I put it in neutral at the light. please help.
also I think my heater core is a gonner. is it hard to get at it? thanks!
If you have air cond in the car it is a bit of a bugger as you have to take the lower dash out on the passenger side. If it is a non A/C car just open the glove box and it is behind a little panel held on by 2 5/16th screws and un do the outer hose clamps and give a pull and replace with new and it is done .A haynes or chiltons will give ya step by step.
thanks dieseljeep 4 the info on the heater core. it is an a/c model. also, any idea why my 1990 gl automatic seems fine while idling in either park or in neutral but seems to loose rpm and die when foot is on brake in gear. I am stumped.
I would run a code scan onit it could be idle speed control,or a vacuum problem.Check all the thing like the PCV valve and such.It may even be the TPS.Since you are in there have a look at the throttle butter fly ,they have to be taken off athe TPS/idlespeed/MAS removed then cleened with intake cleaner, then change a gasket and re install pieces removed.
ONE big problem with this car is bad gas .IF an gas station sells lots of gas u get bad gas with bit water in it .NOW this car stalls out on bad gas lots . get full tank from differnt gas station get an bottle of stp water remover or gas line anti freeze works too put in tank when full,OR if you got no problem driving in cooler weather , u need and 160 thumstat ,there cheap around 20 bucks for hot weather might be that easy ..was for me good luck.
