Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
hey i got a 93 tempo gl and i everytime i press the gas pedal it is very rough to push, it feels as if it is stuck and sticks anyone know what this might be?
I would try spraying some type of silicone lubricant on the joints of ALL the moving parts that experience friction when you press it down. Also, make sure nothing is in the way of the path of it in the engine bay. I hope that helps.
It happens just a couple of time it happen to me and i read that this problem happen also to other and it kinda a mistery.
One morning i start the tempo and go to work and thing went fine. The gaz pedal was working fine and stuff. I stop the car and worked 8am-12. At 12 i jump in my tempo and start the engine, start well and put it in gear. Reverse that drive. When i select it in Drive, i realize that the gas pedal felt different, it was hard to push and my transmition stayed on the first gear ! There was no way that the engine was switching to second gear. I though of parking on the side of the road and turn off the engine and start it right after and it solve the issu. My car went well for like 6 - 10 months than...the same thing happen. This time i was less worried. Just stop the car and restart it and voila..things fixed.
I make some searches on the web and found that it's a mistery on Tempo's car. Kinda of a electronic glintch or some.
Maybe your problem is linked to the trans eletronic component or some ?
For my situation, i thought that the engine learned that something is wrong and not to cause serious damage to the engine ( Running 60KM/H on first gear) would do something. Giving you a hard time pushing the gas pedal would be a sign that somethign is wrong ? What was wrong for me was the transmition switching gear to second.
Not sure.

clean the throttle body, clean and lube (Silicone Spray) the throttle linkage. See if that helps.

unlcip the lil conector that ataches the throttle cable to the throttle body plate, and depress the pedal does the friction go away is so sumthings bidnding up in the throttlebody. could be the rod bearings, could be a rusted out return spring could be alota things......although ford suggests to never clean a t/t's throtle body you might have to, however your absoloute best bet is to swap it with a duratech throtle body and get a lil more power......if your interested let me know.
now if the resistance is coming from the cable it self and its rubber housing then you may need a replacement cable also jusnkyard only.

lol still dident fix this but i cleaned the TB dident make a difference also i think it maybe a cable or a spring not to sure cause when i first got the car it wasent driven alot and now im always driving it and it seemed to have losen as in easier to push the pedal... also when its cold out the pedal is stiff then when im driving for a bit it seems to losen up? any ideas as to what this is or had this happen to someone before?
does it do it randomly or just every once in awhile . Kind of like you need to kick the pedal to get it unstuck. If so its a common problem, it happens to allot of these cars, and is actually the differential causing it. Nothing to worry about though. My old topaz did it for something like 60k miles until I sold it, than who knows.
