Ford TempoThe Ford Tempo is an American-built two-door coupe and four-door sedan produced by the Ford Company from 1984 to 1994. It was the successor to the Ford Fairmont, and was replaced in 1994 by the Ford Contour. The Tempo was part of a rejuvenation by Ford to offer more environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and more modern styled models to compete with the imports.
I bought a new heater core and printed directions out from Autozone and my mechanic friend in PA faxed me Alldata's instuctions. Neither say you need to remove the dash in order to change the heater core, but my friend could not get the box off of the plenum on the floor. He said the carpet was in the way. He left the carpet folded back under the box but the box is back in place without any screws in it.
My mechanic in PA I talked to says the time allotted for doing this job does not allow time for removing the dash. And he does not think it's necessary.
Has anyone changed out the heater core in a similar year or same year Tempo that can guide me a bit? And do we really have to remove the dash?
