Ford ThunderBird Ford thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.

Default 4.6 tbird wont start when cold and runs rough when raining

Please help... I have a 96 tbird with a 4.6. it has 130000 miles on it and has been giving me problems. It won't crank when it's below 55 degrees. I have been parking it inside the garage. Once it cranks it seems to run okay, i notice a little skip under heavy loads but that is it. Once the engine is warmed up it will crank no matter how cold it is outside. Also when it's raining it runs really rough even after it's cranked, If i give it more than half throttle it cuts out. It's a mass air car, i have replaced plugs, airfilter, fuel filter and had no success. The fuel pump is working and dumping plenty of fuel, don't know the pressure. I was told the computer needed to be reprogrammed but i'm not sold and the dealership laughed when i told them this. No one can fix it becuase here in Florida, cold days are few and far between, and once it started no one can find a problem. The check engine light does nto come on.

Bad plug wires will be more evident on a damp or rainy day. Might try checking them.

Don't think about reprogramming the computer, thats not whats wrong.

Hey Jon, do u think a CTS (coolant temp sensor) could cause the above condition?

I'm not sure when he says his car wont crank is that meaning the starter won't spin (no crank) or that engine won't start (no start).

He said no crank, so that means he should check his battery cables, starter, and battery. I think he meant he has a "No start" condition though.

sorry guys, it cranks but wont run. It will spin until the battery goes dead. If you push the gas pedal to the floor it still will not start. If you load it up with started fluid it will start. Also i have replaced the air intake sensor but no success there either

Sounds like your problem is fuel related. See if you can borrow a noid light and check if your injectors are firing.
