Ford ThunderBird Ford thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.

Question air bag code 2-1

found this site and had to join. used to belong to a similar site when i had a 55 belair and those folks were a lot of help. i'm sure the blue oval people here will be able to help as well. here goes: 95 t-bird air bag dash light flashes twice--pause then once--long pause repeating this pattern. this might be an old topic to some but as a new bird owner its frustrating. any help would be appreciated. thankx

DTC21: SAFING SENSOR NOT MOUNTED TO VEHICLE PROPERLY

Normal Operation

The air bag diagnostic monitor measures the resistance between Pin 16 (Circuit 613, DB/W) and Pin 3 (Circuit 649, BK/O, ground). If the air bag diagnostic monitor measures a difference of more than 2.0 ohms between Pin 16 and Pin 3, it will flash out code 21 on the air bag indicator.

It is important to note that Circuit 613 (DB/W) is grounded to the side of the safing sensor case and the case of the safing sensor is grounded to the vehicle in the LH kick panel. A good ground connection, at both the case and the vehicle body, is important to proper circuit operation.

Possible Causes

High resistance at Pin 16 (Circuit 613, DB/W) to ground can be caused by:

A poor connection due to loose mounting or dirt at the LH kick panel safing sensor mounting surface.
An open or damaged wire in Circuit 613 (DB/W) from Pin 16 of the air bag diagnostic monitor connector to the LH kick panel safing sensor.
An open circuit inside the LH kick panel safing sensor.

thanks for your reply phantom_smack. i'll check that out and post back w/results. makes sense now that i think back my pop-in-law had the kick panel off to replace the lower door hinge and might have inadvertantly caused this problem.
